Red Lake County has no independent jail
This changed. Red Lake County has no jail of its own. The county's official Sheriff's Office FAQ page states: 'Red Lake County Sheriff's Office does their jailing at the Tri-County Community Correctional Facility in Crookston, MN. All questions regarding prisoners, prisoner transfers and prisoner visitation should be directed to that number. The telephone number is 218-470-8100, option 3.' This appears to be a longstanding arrangement (not a recent closure), so 'Red Lake County Jail' as a standalone facility does not exist to verify. Reporting as defunct_or_merged rather than fabricating a jail address.
Calling the jail
Have the person's full name and date of birth ready. Booking can usually confirm whether someone is being held, and when they are due before a judge. Minnesota requires a first appearance within 36 hours of arrest, not counting the day of arrest, Sundays and legal holidays (Minn. R. Crim. P. 4.02, subd. 5).
Jail phone lines are recorded. Don't discuss the facts of the case on them — save that for the attorney.
Statewide, VINELink can confirm custody status and notify you of a release.
