Elbow Lake Police Department (merged / disbanded)

This changed. Elbow Lake does not operate its own police department. The City of Elbow Lake's own official website lists Law Enforcement as 'Provided by Grant County Sheriff's Department - not a city department,' with non-emergency contact 218-685-8280. Grant County Herald reporting (July 10, 2026, 'County hears from cities, considers options for law enforcement contracts') states Elbow Lake has used the county sheriff contract since 1991 (Hoffman, another Grant County city, has used it since 1989). That same article shows the arrangement was under active renegotiation in mid-2026 over rising contract costs (a board decision was expected around August 2026, feeding into the county's preliminary budget), so contract hours/terms may have changed since, but there is no indication Elbow Lake has stood up its own department again. Current covering agency: Grant County Sheriff's Office, 218-685-8280, 10 2nd St. NE, Elbow Lake, MN 56531.
