Thomson Township (merged / disbanded)
This changed. Could not confirm any standalone 'Thomson Township Police Department' exists today. The township's own official website (townofthomsonmn.gov) lists only three departments -- Fire, Public Works, and Zoning -- with no police/public-safety department at all, and its township-overview and contact pages make no mention of a police force. A couple of third-party directory sites (countyoffice.org, topoquest.com) list a 'Thomson Township-Esko Police Department' at the township hall address, but that appears to be an aggregator mislabeling the town hall's general line rather than an actual current department, since it doesn't appear anywhere on the township's own site. As a Minnesota township (not an incorporated city), Thomson is presumptively covered by the Carlton County Sheriff's Office for law enforcement (218-384-3236), consistent with how the county handles unincorporated/township policing elsewhere in the county (see Moose Lake entry). I could not find a news source pinpointing exactly when/whether Thomson had its own department that was folded in, so treat the 'now covered by the Sheriff' conclusion as the best-supported inference rather than a confirmed fact.
